BGI proteomics Division was further developed in Dec, 2009, to fully use the advantage of genomics/transcriptomics analysis capacities and experience in BGI, and to build the bridge from DNA, RNA to Protein. The division includes two parts, scientific department and industry department.
BGI Proteomics Division develops and applies powerful tools of "proteomics", such as LC-based gel free protein separation system, high precision mass spectrometry based protein identification system and the bioinformatics system.
The goal of proteomics is not only to determine the expression level of proteins but also their localization, dynamics, post-translational modifications and interaction partners.
By the end of 2010, the division will be one of the best proteomics research organizations which is equipped with 20 ms instruments and engaged with around 500 employees from all over the world.
The division is also considering further developing metabolism research to finally build the digital life. Beside the scientific part, BGI Proteomics Division is also pushing the technologies to some applied fields, such as bio-medicine, bio-energy, cancer diagnosis markers, etc. The division provides the opportunities for any commercial interest.
