HMC is an innovative technology with following benefits compared with traditional micromanipulator based cloning : independence on micromanipulators, low equipment investment, simple and rapid procedures, low reliance on operators, stable and effective output of cloned embryos. Since the operations are simple and not relied on complex equipments, the technology has a wide range of applications for commercialization , as well as the only current choice for automatic cloning.

By the end of 2007, HMC was introduced into Shenzhen, China. After one year of technological efforts, BGI has worked with Shenzhen Agriculture and Husbandry Co. Ltd. And the first batch of handmade cloned pigs in China was born in August 30, 2008.
