Gold Immuno Chromatographic Assay

GICA is essay immune detect device that were made base on lateral flow immunoassay and developed in 1980s. The test was made by the theory both chromatergraphy and immunity. As the membrane is coated with antigen or antibody on both test line and control line regions of the device. When a  specimen is applied at the conjugates pad, it reacts immune protein labeled with colloidal gold particle that has already been applied to, at the same place. The mixture then migrates chromatographically towards membrane and reacts with another immune protein which was coated on the membrane. Then the obvious red line would be seen on test line and control line for positive sample and only on control line for negative sample. To serve as a procedural control, a colored line will always appear at the control line region if the test has been performed properly.

Theoretical of GICA devices

Since its initial development in the 1980s, the technology of GICA has gained wide acceptance. The main reason for its popularity is the simplicity of the test design. The GICA devices are compact and easily portable. Most of them do not require external reagent for results. Results are quick and easy to interpret, usually without the help of an instrument.
