Genomics is a comprehensive, contemporary, and interdisciplinary science. Therefore, the existing education model is no longer competent to meet the need of its development. BGI-Shenzhen offers a joint 2.5+1.5 bachelor degree program (the Innovated Diploma Program for Undergraduates) in collaboration with South China University of Technology (SCUT). The candidates are selected from the most innovated undergraduates, in ther first year of college, majored in Mathematics, Physics, Computer Sciences, and Biology. The admitted undergraduates will finish their first two and a half year’s studies in SCUT. Afterwards, they will continue the rest one and a half year under the special training program in BGI-Shenzhen. Credits are transferrable between both institutions. Finally, students who meet the requirement of the degree program will be awarded a Bachelor’s degree from SCUT.
This program takes advantages of the advanced personnel and technology resources of both parties. The program focuses on the training of the excellent talents to master the knowledge, basic skills and application of Genomics and Bioinformatics. Graduates of this program are supposed to be competent and also prepared with competitive abilities to carry out basic researches, as well as applications of engineering, in the field of genomics. |
