Supporting People Devastated by Sichuan Earthquake

At 14:28 on May 12, 2008, an earthquake, which measured 8.0 on the Richter Scale (equivalent to the force of 400 atomic bombs), struck Wenchuan, Sichuan, destroying countless lives forever. The impact of the quake and the more than 150 aftershocks, spread from the epicenter throughout Southeast Asia, and affected more than half of China. Over 40,000 people were confirmed dead, and the number of injured climbed to over 250,000. The disaster demolished buildings, leaving countless victims trapped and approximately five million people homeless. Transportation and communication systems were disrupted, making rescue operations even more difficult. The Central Committee of the CPC and the State Council recognized the immense impact of this disaster and the need for rapid and extensive aid. Hu Jintao, Wen Jiabao, and other national leaders made swift decisions and quickly organized and directed the full deployment of earthquake relief work.

In response to the needs of the people whose lives were destroyed by this terrible earthquake, BGI launched a donation activity among the institutions and all the subsidiary enterprise. BGI employees, expressing their great concern over this event, donated money in amounts ranging from ten to tens of thousands RMB. BGI donated all the collected funds to the Red Cross Society of China.

The impact of disasters of this magnitude extends beyond time and space, making them a shared grief for all mankind. In the face of such natural disasters, only human love can provide eternal power to rise above such grief; only love can serve as a common faith to rise above the great strength of disasters.
