After acquiring the samples of SARS on April 15, 2003, BGI completed the first genome sequence of SARS virus within 36 hours, identified the proteome of SARS virus within 48 hours, and developed the first generation of test kit for detecting SARS virus. 300 thousand test kits, after obtaining the national approval of production, were immediately produced and donated for clinical application. During this event, BGI made great contribution to the battle against SARS, as well as displaying the overall advantage of BGI technology platforms when responding to emergencies.
