BGI-Research (Qingdao) Convenes First Council Meeting
The First Council Meeting of BGI-Research (Qingdao) took place on June 6, in Qingdao Sino-German Ecopark. The coastal city of Qingdao, home to a rich diversity of marine resources and top universities, has become a key location for BGI marine omics. Qingdao BGI aligns its expansion with Qingdao’s strategic planning for the development of its marine industry, and efforts to accelerate technological innovation, intensify reform and opening up, and promote new engines of economic development. Xu Xun, President of Shenzhen BGI·Research and Executive Director of CNGB-Shenzhen, was appointed as the president of BGI-Research (Qingdao) at the event. The budget and work plan for 2017 were adopted by consensus. The Council constitution and measures for administration of fixed assets were also reviewed and approved.
The Administration Committee of The West Coast New Area of Qingdao and Shenzhen BGI Technology Limited were designated as the president and vice president positions on the Council, respectively. The Qingdao Municipal Science and Technology Bureau, Finance Bureau of Qingdao, Qingdao Development & Reform Commission, Qingdao Municipal Health and Family Planning Commission, Qingdao Municipal Rural Affairs Commission, Qingdao Municipal Ocean and Fisheries Administration, and the Administration Committee of Qingdao Sino-German Ecopark were designated as member units. The meeting signified a major step forward for genomic science in Qingdao, and international exchanges and cooperation in Qingdao’s marine resources, science and technology industries.
